These ice waves, as seen on my second expedition to Antarctica, were absolutely breathtaking. As a result of constant melting and re-freezing, the shimmering neon-blue color was very striking, and unmatchable to any man made colors.
The sunlight passing through the ice cast light blue shadows on the rocks and ice sheets in front. The same blue tone extended to the ice sheets in the middle and gradually then fade out in the distance.
Behind the waves, the ice sheet by the frozen lake resembles an ancient fortress, enhancing the mysterious complexity of this bitter cold environment.
Black accents echo the dark shadow of the crevasse in the foreground, subtly leading the eye toward the nothingness in the background.
I was in awe of the magical colors and ice formation. It is indeed one of the most unforgettable and reverent moments from my Antarctic journey.
